A letter from our CEO, Oscar Pierre

Looking back, it's been an exhilarating journey since we founded Glovo 9 years ago with the audacious goal of creating the largest multicategory on-demand delivery app, aiming to make everything immediately accessible in cities.

Initially, our path led us to focus predominantly on the restaurant category. This strategic choice was deliberate: dominate food delivery first to establish a strong user base, then transition those users to a broader multicategory model. This approach has set the stage for what came next.

Five years ago, when Dani Alonso joined our team, QCommerce—our term for everything outside restaurants—was just a tiny slice of our business, making up less than 3% of our operations. Back then, QCommerce faced the classic innovator's dilemma: it was challenging to justify significant investments in technology and resources for segments like groceries, pharma, or flowers when demand appeared so modest.

However, Dani's leadership in QCommerce has been transformative. In these past four years, QCommerce has surged from near obscurity to achieving an impressive €1 billion in top-line revenue, now representing a fifth of our total business. Our focus has been on refining the value proposition and economics of the most challenging e-commerce vertical: groceries. We've partnered with over 100 top-tier grocery retailers across our markets to enhance our product, user experience, and choice. Yet, there remains a vast landscape of opportunity to better serve our customers, particularly as online penetration in groceries still hovers below 5% in most of our countries.

As we continue to expand our marketplace to include other categories such as pharma, pets, flowers, beauty, and sports, we see a clear shift. Our customers are rapidly embracing the concept of immediate delivery, coming to expect that everything they order online should arrive in mere minutes. This shift is redefining traditional e-commerce, and I believe we are only seeing the beginning of what QCommerce can achieve.

With Dani transitioning to lead our Product team full-time, the stage is set for a new visionary leader to drive QCommerce from €1 billion to €10 billion in the coming years. This is where you come in I am really looking forward to start working closely with you!


YOUR MISSION:

Do whatever it takes to build the biggest online marketplace in the countries we operate. Make it profitable and the desired destination for customers and partners


IN THE JOURNEY YOU WILL:

  • Have full P&L responsibility and own business objectives
  • Lead and develop a team of 450+ individuals
  • Oversee multiple departments and areas of responsibility
  • Hire top talent, help them perform, grow and develop as professionals
  • Devise the long-term strategy for the business unit 
  • Analyze business and financial data to take key decisions for the country
  • Establish and maintain relationships with CEOs/C-Level of the top retailers
  • Get into details, deepdive and problem solve. You will make things happen together with your team
  • Develop new business opportunities, anticipate issues and improve processes

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE RIDE:

  • Experience leading large cross-functional teams, have hired senior management
  • Lead negotiations of multi-million contracts and you're comfortable of building relationships with C-level of other organizations
  • Lead P&L with full ownership 
  • You are capable of inspiring teams, including senior management with 10yr+ of experience. You attract talent and are obsessed about high performance and raising the bar
  • You’re an expert on managing stakeholders, working with peers and leveraging other teams aspiring to do what’s best for the company 
  • You’re an owner, you have a natural bias for action, always pushing for things to happen, objective and deadline-oriented 
  • You role model hands-on attitude and detail obsession. You lead by example in being into all small details and getting out of the office to better understand your business (via delivering orders yourself, visiting stores, etc..) 
  • You ensure the highest standards for you and your team with the deliverables and business objectives
  • You have an ambition and energy that makes some people think you're crazy while inspiring others
  • You are always a step ahead, proactive with potential problems/opportunities and always thinking how to be better
